Here are the details you need to configure your email client to use Outlook's SMTP server:

  • SMTP server - smtp-mail.outlook.com

  • Username - Your full Outlook.com email address

  • Password - Your Outlook.com password

  • SMTP port - 587

  • Requires SMTP TLS/SSL encryption – Yes

What About Downloading Email From Outlook.com?

These settings (SMTP settings) are only used to send email from the Outlook.com address. You need to setup a POP3 or IMAP account to download and save incoming messages from an Outlook.com account. Depending on the standard you use on your devices, enter the Outlook.com IMAP or POP server settings.

Use IMAP when you want to sync email between devices so that changes you make on one device, such as your phone, transfer to all your other connected devices (for example, your tablet and computer).
