How to Create App Passwords for Outlook.com ?

How to Set Up App Passwords for Outlook.com ?
If you sign in
and the app doesn't ask for a security code even though you've turned on 2-Step
Verification, you might be able to sign in with an app password.
An app password is a randomly long generated password that you enter one time
instead of your usual password when you sign in to an app or device that
doesn't support 2-Step Verification.
How to create app passwords to access Outlook.com even if
you have two-step verification turned on, take the following steps:
- Go to the Security basics page and sign in to
your Microsoft account.
- Scroll down and select Update in the Security
section.
- In the Advanced
Security Options section, select Get
Started.
[You may need to enter your email password before you can see these settings] - You can skip this page if you 2-step verification
is already enabled and select Create a
new app password.
If it’s not already enabled, select Enable next to Two-step Verification & follow these steps to enable it. You'll be back after a few screens where you first activated 2FA and from there you can select Create New App Password. - By
selecting Next, start the 2-step Verification setup wizard.
- The next screen will ask you to set up the
Microsoft Authenticator app, which allows you to tap an approval notification
to grant an app access to your Outlook account (no password or code required).
For our purposes, select Cancel to continue setting up 2-Step Verification.
- Follow the prompts to turn on 2-step
Verification.
- Now,
in the third step of the wizard, you will see an option to set up your
smartphone with an app password.
- To complete setup on your tablet or smartphone,
follow the on-screen instructions. Once you set an app password, you can use it
in your app or change it at any time.
Why do Use Outlook App Passwords?
2-step authentication, which requires both a password and a
code generated on your phone, is an invaluable tool to keep your Outlook.com
account secure. However, those email clients don’t support security codes for
two step verification that use POP to log in to Outlook.com.

to Outlook.com ensures that your account remains secure even when you access
Outlook.com externally.
How Can I Change the App Password?
If you have forgotten
your password, you can change or reset it for your security reasons.
Here's how to easily change your app
password:
- In the
top navigation bar of Outlook.com, select your name then select My
Microsoft account.
- Choose
Update under the Security section.
- In the Advanced security options,
select Get started.
- You will now see an App passwords section in
the Additional security options screen.
- Outlook will generate a new app password when you select Create a new app password that you can use with your synced apps to reconnect with your Outlook.com account.
How to Disable App-Specific Passwords in Outlook.com ?
You can remove the app passwords associated with your
Outlook.com account at any time.
- In Outlook.com, go to Profile picture.
- Then go to My Microsoft account > Security > Get started.
- Select Remove existing app passwords in the App passwords.
- Click Remove.
Now any password you have set for your Outlook.com account
will be disabled.
